Honestly, I've never thought a food industry can be such a big problem in America. I grew up in a small town in Europe so there was no genetic modified food, farmers didn't use fertilizers, everything was organic. When I came to America everything tasted to me different especially when I bought food in a supermarket. It was new experience for me so I tried to find out where does this food come from, who did it, and what does it contain. Then I realized that the best sources of food are small local stores where we can find homemade products without the preservatives. Movie "Food Inc" is confirmation of my thesis. Producers of the movie do a good job touching aspect of food industry. They are pointing out of what farming means today in America. Money is the only reason for doing it. Nobody cares about quality and even more about people's health. Although I'm surprised there is a law in few states of U.S. which protects food manufactures from people who try to find out the true about their products. In Europe there is an opposite situation. The law protects people against the harmful food manufactures. And also there is a law, which protects animals against bad-treatment, what was presented in the movie.
After I watched this movie I'm really frightened about what I eat and what I drink. They said the only 10% of the items come from agro-farms in U.S. and the rest of them contain corn and soybeans products, which are genetic modified. And one more thing, which is the same, terrified there are no rules, which require food manufacture to put label on the products.
I'm really glad I could watch this movie. I'm going to recommend watching it to my family and friends. I think it was worthwhile.

I agree that it's scary that manufactures don't have no rules about putting label on their products i think they should be held accounted for this just like any other manufacture.
ReplyDeleteYou have a really interesting perspective as a European new to the US "When I came to America everything tasted to me different especially when I bought food in a supermarket." This is really interesting. I hope you will share more of the interesting comparisons between the US and Poland/Europe you see in your everyday life as the semester continues
